Let's see... I went back to Louisiana to surprise my kids for Halloween.

I have been in Louisiana for about 10 days, and a week before that, I was just goofing off in Seattle. I went to a couple open mics I think. I had a great show in Seattle on Saturday night a couple days before I flew to Louisiana. So it's been a busy few weeks. I'm excited to get home to Seattle!

I discovered the wonders of a bed and breakfast! My new preferred way to travel!

The owner/operator Constance was a gem! Her corgis were a delight! The house was immaculate, beautiful, and close to the heart of the hubbub in New Orleans!

I rented this room for a Friday night so I could go out and party in New Orleans with some of my new friends in Louisiana. They bailed on me because they had to work, but I met a reformed heroin addict and street musician at the open mic and he gave me a ride to Bourbon Street and we hung out for a bit. After we parted ways, I walked up and down the avenue of avarice, drinking with all the rest, overdressed in my black suit, black shirt, black shoes, and black-rimmed glasses. Most people were dressed like drunken college kids and I know I stood out a little, but in a good way.

I spent a lot of time trying to find a club that was playing EDM music and finally settled on the only option on the street, which turned out to be a gay bar. That meant there was no cover for men, even on a Friday night, and that the music would be electronic, loud, and fun.

After about 45 minutes of dancing to some pretty good house remixes of 80s pop, I sauntered out of the place to get some fresh air and was drawn by the sounds of 2000s hiphop coming from across the way. I ended up on the 2nd floor of a venue, dancing with a rambunctious mix of a wedding party and a bunch of local youths. A lot of young black women kept dancing with me while their friends took photos and I decided to just go with it, although I kept wondering if we were all in on the same joke.

At 2 AM, I stumbled all the way back to the house from where the uber dropped me off outside. It's a big house, so it was a long walk back to my room.

Around 10:30am, Constance made me breakfast. I have never stayed at a bed and breakfast before so when she told me to come to the breakfast room in the morning, my first thought was "how many rooms does this house have??" It was a great, simple breakfast: coffee, eggs, bacon, and an English muffin.

Louisiana Comedy

I did some fun shows in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. I made some new friends out of the local comedians. I had a fun cameo in one guy's promo reel that he was making (you can spot me in the first part of this clip!)

The Station in Baton Rouge is my favorite place to do comedy in Lousiana right now. In the last year or so, I have probably been to about a dozen of their Wednesday night open mics. Garret and Rusty run a good, tight show and the crowds are consistently good: medium to large crowds, who laugh at comedy and are not too disruptive.

Open Mics in Louisiana are prettty good! The Ugly Dog Saloon (top left) is in New Orleans on Friday nights and is well attended.

The Silly Rabbit (top right) is the only comedy club in Baton Rouge and I have been a few times. It's great because I can tell there are actual comedy fans in this city.

Talk about the show

My day job has taking all my attention and energy lately. I don't usually talk about my regular career but I am realizing lately that I have to or else I won't be able to balance comedy with my profession. In an ideal life, comedy would be my main profession, but I have always had a few obstacles that keep me in the rat race. My kids hate when I call them obstacles but it is what it is. I'm joking, kids are only part of it, the other part of it is the diabetes and the horrible insulin addiction I have, plus this abject fear I have of living in poverty
